Requirements

• White Handkerchief
• “I do” Glow in the dark boards. (Smaller than a short bond paper. At least 7″X 9″) the sticker should be BLUE and used in the white part of an illustration board.

Objective

To show unity through waving white handkerchiefs as Super Junior sing Marry U.

Symbolism

Traditionally, handkerchief is the symbol of a girl giving her heart to the man she loves. When a woman gives a knight a handkerchief, it means that she’s giving him the blessing of her love. For Matadors, a woman’s handkerchief is considered as the highest honor they could have. In other parts of the world, handkerchiefs are used to show great emotion.

During the soccer game, Spain showed their approval of Ronaldino through waving handkerchiefs. In literature, handkerchiefs had always been a part of two lovers. A very good example of this is Desdemona and Othella. The white handkerchief Othello gave to her was the symbol of love between the two of them. Even in our own culture, handkerchiefs plays a big part between the courtship of a man and a woman. Like in the dance, Carinosa, the handkerchief is part of the courtship as the pair danced in the tune of love.

White means purity. So if we will use a white handkerchief, it means pure love. Hollywood is the one responsible to give the wrong impression on white handkerchiefs.

In war, when a knight put a white handkerchief in their neck, it means that they come in peace. When they raise a white flag, it doesn’t mean that they surrender. It means that they are willing to listen and form a truce between the warring parties.

Others would say that it’s a sign of goodbye. Actually, it’s not. It’s a sign of “Take Care.” In olden times, people wave a white handkerchief when someone leaves symbolizing their wish for that person to “take care” and “have a safe trip.”

Handkerchiefs had always been used to display strong emotions.

Happiness, Sadness, Enjoyment. With a single handkerchief, we could display an array of emotions. However, it actually depends on how you use it. The handkerchief is a mere tool to symbolize your emotion…it actually depends on the person using it if he or she wants it to be for support or for goodbye.

Reason

We choose to use the white handkerchief when the song ‘Marry U’ was chosen. The song’s meaning is about a guy courting a girl and asking her to marry him. The white handkerchief fits the song perfectly. White to show the purity of the boys’ love and handkerchief to show the girls’ approval. Also, the song MARRY U’s color had always been white. So we guessed that a sea of white would be the most appropriate for the song.

Execution

Before the concert, volunteers would go around the venue and distribute the handkerchiefs that will be used during the Marry U song. They would also explain how to do the handkerchief wave. It’ll be a moderate type of wave wherein we will start from left to right. We need to coordinate the wave through the beat of the song.

Also, during the part “Will you Marry me?”, we will all say “I do”. We are considering using glow in the dark stickers for our “I do” boards that our seated members would hold.

Expenditure

We know that majority of the audiences are students and was able to attend through saving their own money. So we thought of a project that would require a simple execution and at the same time, the price would not hurt their pocket. Majority of the handkerchiefs and all the boards would be provided by SJUPH so they don’t need to spend a thing. Also, we’ve opened a pledge thread so for those people who are willing to help would be able to in their own little way. Also, if they want, they can make their own “I do” boards as well.

We also have proposal fanchants for Henry and Zhoumi. This is purely optional.

In the song Sorry Sorry, at the end part, we will chant: Sorry! Sorry! Super Junior twice.

So it’ll be like this:

1st time: Sorry! Sorry! SUPER JUNIOR!
2nd time: Zhoury! Zhoury! Henry Zhoumi~!

Again, THIS IS AN OPTIONAL THING. THIS IS JUST OUR WAY TO SHOW OUR APPRECIATION FOR ZHOUMI AND HENRY. NO HATERS PLEASE.

We are also proposing to chant ” HENRY LAU MAHAL KITA” during his solo in don’t don. Mahal kita means I love you in English. Since we’re quite sure that it’s the first sentence they’ll learn in our own country, we are pretty confident that Henry would understand that he’s loved.

• Why I love Super Junior? I wasn’t into K-Pop when Super Junior debuted, I started noticing them only after they released Sorry Sorry (in my opinion, THE song that shot them to superstardom and got them where they are right now). My first impression of them was “Why so many members?” and “What’s with the haircut?” While watching EHB, it was then when I realized that these boys began to grow on me. They have a nonchalant approach to fame and they don’t take themselves too seriously, that’s a quality I rarely find in other K-Pop groups. I realize in Korean entertainment world, idol images are shaped and they have to maintain that, but every so often, with SJ members, their real personalities appear in interviews, variety shows, radio broadcasts and especially Super Show. They way they interact with each other make me feel like I’m watching the boys-next-door, approachable, funny, dorky and humble. I guess that imperfection shows that they are real and relatable.
  
  Why I love TwELFs and SPL? When I first started collecting information about Super Junior, I stumbled upon several fanbases, but TwELFs stood out to my attention immediately for several reasons: quality content, good English, pleasing to the eyes & easy to navigate.Like any other new converts, I joined in the fandom bandwagon and participated with gusto especially on Trending Topic projects. I was surprised to know that TwELFs founders were still in college, because they ran a tight ship with the blog and Twitter account. I was even more pleasantly surprised when I communicated via Twitter with the founders, because they were so friendly and unpretentious. TwELFs blog has meaty content without sacrificing entertainment value. It is informational without sounding too serious and at the same time, provides all the fun tidbits for fans –newly minted or veteran.
  
  SPL is oozing with creativity (e.g. forum members referred to as Students and Super Junior members as Professors!) and over a short period of time has gained the reputation of being one of the most acclaimed international forums for ELFs. SPL keeps making changes for the better and continues to carry out credible projects for Super Junior and ELFs. SPL is a labor of love, and I salute the people behind it, who are such dedicated hard-workers.
